Define your Ideal Position and Find HappinessHave you ever stopped to think about what the ideal position for you would be like? If you haven't, you should. If you concentrate on searching for and securing the ideal position, you won't have to work a day in your life -or at least, it won't feel like work. Defining a clear job objective is vital to finding happiness; first, you need to determine what YOUR values, interests, skills, and preferred work environments are. There are thousands of positions available and many different work environments. You may be miserable working in one position, but ecstatic working in another. And, surprise, surprise - they could have the same title. A job title and an objective are NOT the same thing - an objective is more specific to YOUR needs. If you had to determine the most important aspect of a position, would you choose money? Maybe you would when you were younger, but as people grow and work they realize that there are more important values than money. Job satisfaction is rated number one - whether or not you enjoy getting up in the morning to go to work. At the end of your day, do you say, "What a great day!", or is it, "Oh, another day, another dollar." When determining the ideal position for you, consider these areas: necessary skills, special knowledge required, your values and interests, desired compensation, location, responsibility wanted, environment, type of co-workers, clients, and type of supervisor. The lesson to be learned is, before you conduct your job search, you should define or redefine your objective. Determine what you need to do or attain in order to secure the position you really want. We have helped many clients define their goals by conducting a career goals assessment. A coaching relationship will help determine YOUR "ideal position" - it is important; makes sense; and is offered for a reasonable investment. Join the Cando Career Connection Newsletter.
